From park dates to matching COVID tests to building out a quaranteam, pandemic dating makes the already complicated matter of trying to find an intimate partner feel insurmountable. BuzzFeed News spoke to eight people about their pandemic dating experiences, who agreed to spill their full, unvarnished secrets as long as we didn't publish their full names. They told us stories about falling in love over FaceTime, desperately texting exes — and the fear of perhaps killing your parents. These accounts have been edited for clarity and length.

A colleague had sent her a link to a Facebook post that was circulating online. It was time, he wrote, to break the silence. Then she saw that several people had written that the same thing had happened to them. A few weeks later, she ran into Thomas Vorreyer, a political reporter at Vice Germany , and learned that he had seen the post and was also investigating. The two journalists decided to combine their efforts. Several of the men were young, lacked German citizenship, and did not have health insurance.

He manages to learn her precise location, even seemingly down to her parking spot, while living thousands of miles away. At one point she logged on to her wedding website to find it filled with vivid photographs of her and Nickerson engaged in sex acts.
